Resisting the Gaze

“Incredible White” screen capture is from the Sherwin-Williams digital color wall, located at www.Sherwin-Williams.com. The digital color wall includes just over 100 shades of white, including 63 colors that explicitly include the word “white” and tones that include personality attributes, including “modest,” “smart,” “nice,” “reserved,” and “nonchalant.” Black and brown shades on the digital color wall lack such adjectives and are more likely to be named after nature (e.g., Midnight, Iron Ore) or animals (e.g., Night Owl, Elephant Ear).
